Office Desk Options

"What Are My Office Desk Surface Options"

When the time comes to replace your office desk, there are several important factors that you need to consider to ensure that you buy the best desk for your work needs.

Does the desk fit well within the parameters and constraints of your office or work space? Is it comfortable, ergonomic, practical and stylish? And will the work surface withstand the daily-use demands of your particular job and work environment?

In this week’s blog post we are going to look at the options available for your office desk surface.

The Popular Option

Laminate Work Surface: With a plastic finish that is applied to a wood core, laminate is affordable, durable, and withstands more than pure wood or veneer. You also get a choice of a wide array of colours and wood grain patterns. For a quality laminate that will better withstand daily use and abuse, look for a desk with a thick, high pressure laminate.

The Durable Option

Metal: Whilst you run the risk of not appearing as smart and professional as other desk surface options are, metal or steel desks can be reasonably priced and are ideal for work stations that will be sustain long-term heavy use or for high-traffic areas. To ensure that you are getting quality metal desks you should assess the overall weight, finish and feel.

The Elegant Option

Wooden: Wood looks attractive and elegant, more so than other types of desk, but it is typically more expensive and considerably more delicate; wooden desks can nick and stain more easily and are not suited for rough or heavy use. Veneer desks incorporate a thin surface layer of wood glued to a more inferior base and are therefore cheaper than solid wood.

The right choice of desk surface for you will depend upon what you will be using the desk for, your budget, and upon your available space.
