Office Furniture | Get Up, Stand Up

"To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear." ~ Buddha

Why You Need To Get Up and Stand Up

Buddha has spoken many a wise word - and we're pretty sure he didn't come up with these insightful thoughts whilst sitting at his desk. These days we've all become slaves to the chair - whether you're sat at your office desk, or sat on the tills in the supermarket; we travel to our places of work sat in our cars or on a bus or train. As we work, we sit more than we do anything else. Some of us are now averaging 9.3 hours a day, sat on our butts.

Studies have linked excessive sitting with being overweight and obese, type 2 diabetes, some types of cancer, and premature death. Prolonged sitting is thought to slow the metabolism, affecting the body's ability to regulate blood sugar, blood pressure and break down body fat.

So we know that we are damaging our health by sitting down for too long. To combat this office design companies have come up with standing desks as well as desks that can be multifunctional.

The problem has been one of human nature - too often the multifunctional desks required too much effort to be altered from one position to another - the more difficult and time consuming an activity is, by and large the less likely someone is to partake in it.

Being acutely aware of the importance of movement in our working day here at 20six Ltd we needed to find a solution for ourselves as well as one that we could provide for our customers. And we've found just that - an office desk with understated design and advanced technology, coupled with mechanics that make the raising of the work surface a finger-light operation which requires no electrical supply. Yep, to raise or lower your desk is as simple as raising your finger.
